The BMS600 boosts productivity by delivering fast, precise sharpening, longer blade life, reduced downtime, and consistent cutting performance.
The Wood-Mizer BMS600 bandsaw blade sharpener, which replaces the BMS500 model, is designed to restore blades quickly, precisely, and consistently, even during intensive day-to-day operation. Its reinforced construction, upgraded lubrication system, and precision engineering make it a reliable solution for demanding industrial environments.
At the core of the BMS600 is a powerful 0.75 kW (1 HP) electric motor that drives a 203 mm (8”) profiled CBN grinding wheel at 4280 RPM. This combination ensures fast material removal while maintaining exceptional sharpening accuracy.
The machine is compatible with bandsaw blades 25-75mm (1"-3") wide and 13-29 mm tooth spacing. A full sharpening cycle typically takes just 3-4 minutes, allowing operators to process multiple blades efficiently during a shift.
Upgraded Oil System for Maximum Performance
What distinguishes the BMS600 is its enhanced oil management system, designed for intensive sharpening operations. Key features of the oil system include - a more efficient oil pump, a larger oil reservoir, upgraded oil-application nozzles, oil catch basins on support arms, a magnet filter tray to remove metal filings, and an integrated de-mister port.
Proper cooling and cleaning are critical when using CBN grinding technology. The advanced oil system ensures consistent cooling of both blade and grinding wheel while preventing clogging of the abrasive surface. This extends the life of the grinding wheel and maintains sharpening accuracy over time.
Precision CBN Sharpening Technology
The BMS600 uses profiled CBN grinding wheels matched to specific blade tooth geometries. The grinding head is factory-set and locked at the correct angle to ensure perfect alignment between the wheel profile and blade tooth shape.
This configuration preserves the original tooth geometry, prevents profile deformation, ensures consistent, repeatable sharpening results, and protects the grinding head and wheel from damage.
The fixed-angle design eliminates operator guesswork and guarantees uniform blade quality after every cycle.
Automation for Efficiency and Control
The BMS600 is equipped with advanced automation features to streamline workflow and reduce manual supervision. It includes electronic tooth counter with automatic shut-off, automatic deburring tool (inboard carbide scraper), adjustable grinding speed, independent ON/OFF switches (for index motor, grinder motor, oil pump), as well as “Set-up” and “Run” operating modes.
The electronic tooth counter can be pre-set to match the blade length, automatically stopping the sharpening process once the cycle is complete. This ensures consistent results and frees the operator to focus on other tasks.
Operator-Focused Design
Ease of use and visibility are central to the BMS600’s design. The control station offers a clear, user-friendly interface, while the inspection window and LED interior lighting allow the operator to monitor the sharpening process safely and comfortably.
The machine is fully adjustable for 25-75 mm (1"-3") blade widths, and the blade installation system enables quick mounting and removal, minimizing downtime between cycles.
A Professional Investment in Blade Performance
The Wood-Mizer BMS600 is more than a sharpener - it is a complete industrial blade maintenance solution. By bringing sharpening in-house with a high-performance system, sawmills gain full control over blade condition, reduce downtime, and maximize cutting efficiency.
The sharpener can be combined with the BMT300 tooth setter to create an effective set for comprehensive blade maintenance (sharpening and setting).
