How the SW10 Setworks Speeds Up Work on a Sawmill

The SW10 Setworks is an electronic control system for adjusting the cutting head height on a bandsaw sawmill. Thanks to this device, the user does not need to measure and set the position manually each time — simply enter the target board thickness, and the system will automatically position the sawhead at the correct level.

The SW10 Setworks is standard equipment on Wood-Mizer LT20 sawmill series, but an option on LT15CLASSIC and CLASSIC WIDE sawmills.

How does the SW10 Setworks controller work?

The SW10 functions as an electronic assistant for the operator:

  • Precisely measures the sawhead position in real time
  • Automatically sets the cutting height to the desired board thickness
  • Allows programming of consecutive cuts (e.g., a series of boards of the same thickness)
  • Eliminates errors resulting from manual measurements

In practice, operation is straightforward. The operator enters the desired board thickness and presses the positioning button, after which the sawhead automatically moves to the correct height. Once positioned, the machine is ready and cutting can begin.

Four operating modes of the SW10 Setworks — full control over cutting

The SW10 Setworks offers four operating modes that allow the sawhead positioning method to be perfectly matched to the production type:

  1. Pattern Mode (Manual) – the operator first creates a cutting sequence with different thicknesses (e.g., 32 mm, 25 mm, 18 mm), and the device automatically steps through the programmed values on subsequent passes. Ideal for varied orders.
  2. Pattern Mode (Quick Program) – the fastest mode for serial production of boards with the same thickness. The operator enters the dimension once, and Setworks repeats it for each subsequent cut.
  3. Normal Cutting Mode – classic operation where the board thickness is selected from saved values or entered manually before each new cut.
  4. Remote Mode – enables remote control of sawhead positioning (e.g., from an additional panel), increasing convenience and ergonomics.

Thanks to these modes, the SW10 Setworks performs equally well in precision custom production and in high-volume lumber processing.

Why does the SW10 controller truly make work easier?

  • Faster – No time wasted on measuring and corrections. Each subsequent cut happens almost instantly.
  • More accurate – Electronics maintain consistent board thickness, reducing material waste.
  • More convenient – Less manual work means less operator fatigue during long shifts.
  • More professional – An ideal solution for producing dimension lumber, construction elements, and woodworking components.

Where does it perform best?

The SW10 Setworks is particularly valued by users who regularly cut wood to repeatable dimensions and want to increase productivity. It performs equally well when processing both softwood and hardwood, especially in operations where precision and minimal material waste are essential.

Download the SW10 Setworks quick guide, print it, and keep it near your sawmill for quick and easy reference when setting up your Setworks.
