Wood is one of the most valuable natural materials that allows society to build a better world for millions of people. Wood-Mizer develops and implements innovative solutions through which woodworking enterprises can grow and make a profit. These solutions are so effective that they allow users to work with the natural resource with maximum benefit. This means that with Wood-Mizer equipment less wood is needed for woodworking, and more trees remain growing in the forests.

Wood-Mizer started in America in the late 1970s when two engineers – the future founders of the company – began working on a project to create a portable sawmill.

At that time, logs were only processed by large sawmills but the newly-created compact and portable Wood-Mizer sawmills offered a new, alternative way of wood cutting.

Their invention created a number of benefits which provided a step-change in milling:

  • The mobile Wood-Mizer sawmills can be towed to the place of work, removing the cost of log transport
  • A narrow band blade can cut boards at just 2mm thick, so more boards are created and less waste is produced from each log.
  • Wood-Mizer sawmills are equipped with lower power engines compared to traditional sawmills. This means lower energy consumption and reduce exhaust emissions.
  • Wood-Mizer sawmills are able to cut large-diameter logs.
  • Perhaps the most important change is that relatively small Wood-Mizer sawmills produce perfectly smooth, precisely calibrated lumber that previously was only possible with large, expensive cutting equipment.

The new technology made a breakthrough in sawmilling. It made wood sawing more environmentally friendly and affordable for entrepreneurs and small enterprises, from farmers, estate owners and carpentry workshops to furniture factories.

Only a few years have passed since the company was founded in America, and Wood-Mizer was among the pioneers who invested in the construction of its manufacturing centre in Poland immediately after the fall of the communist regime.

That was the summer of 1990. Today, the Polish Wood-Mizer Industries facility is a flagship development, setting the tone for the whole industry.

Here are some impressive facts about the 30-year journey of Wood-Mizer’s European manufacturing centre, located in the Kolo, in central Poland.

  • Wood-Mizer is equipped with the most advanced robotic metal-working machines from Japan and Germany and is constantly investing in the latest technological equipment and professional skills of workers.
  • Wood-Mizer's workshops, warehouses and offices with an area of more than 15,000 square metres spread over nine hectares.
  • Production of Wood-Mizer blades that were developed by the company specifically for wood cutting and became a model of quality in the industry, is certified according to ISO 9001: 2015. The range of cutting tools under the brand Wood-Mizer Tools includes more than 2,500 samples of narrow and wide band blades, planing knives, frame saws, circular saws; the range is constantly expanding.
  • About 400 employees work at Wood-Mizer’s European facility. Wood-Mizer provides advanced training, reimbursement programmes for higher education and invests in employees in many different ways. Production is continuously improved using LEAN manufacturing methods.
  • Wood-Mizer’s Design Bureau is a team of highly qualified engineers working in tandem with their American colleagues, developing unique technological solutions for efficient sawing. In particular, the new TITAN industrial equipment line represents both the design of sawmills and the production of equipment for specific customer tasks.
  • The Polish Wood-Mizer factory supplies equipment and tools to four continents – to Europe, America, Asia and Africa. In the modern world, the quality of technological equipment is to be supported by the availability of after-sales service. Wood-Mizer service centers with spare parts warehouses and experienced specialists operate in 110 countries.
